The skills- and career development of all employees are very important to Wilmed Park, and therefore supports the National Skills Development Act, 1998 in annually submitting our Workplace Skills Plan to the Health and Welfare SETA. 

We believe that if our employees are skilled, not only them, but also you, as our client, can be ensured of only the best and highest standard of treatment and care available.

   

Wilmed Park puts a high premium on the ongoing training of personnel. By giving in-service training to all categories of personnel, staff are given the opportunity to develop professionally and personally. By continually training personnel, Wilmed park is keeping up with the latest trends and technology and ensures that the potential of the personnel are being utilised to the maximum.

   

Wilmed Park Private Hospital offers opportunities fot nurses to enhance their knowledge, skills and qualifications, through bursaries and in-house training.

Therefore training agreements are signed with the following Nursing Schools, and is therefore accredited as a Clinical Learning Facility with the South African Nursing Council:

A. BASIC NURSES COURSES:

  1. Goldfields Nursing College - Pupil enrolled nurses course
  2. Goldfields Nursing College - Bridging Course leading to the Registration as a professional nurse
  3. UNISA - Bridging Course leading to the Registration as a professional nurse: Distance learning

B. POST BASIC COURSES:

  1. Technikon Pretoria - Diploma in Oncology nursing
  2. RAU - Diploma in Theatre Technique
  3. University of Pretoria - Diploma in Intensive Care
  4. Goldfields Nursing College - Diploma in Theatre Technique

C. IN-HOUSE TRAINING:

  1. MMS - First Aid
  2. American Heart Associaton - BLS (own instructor)
   

Since January 2003, Wilmed park Private Hospital has offered bursaries to members of the community who wanted to train as Enrolled Nurses. The following process is followed in selecting candidates:

  1. During the months June & July of every year, bursary application documents and paper select score grids are made available
    1. Candidates have to rate their own matric results (or your last exam written if in matric) according to the score grid.
    2. Candidates with an m-count of 15 (old curriculum) or 22 (new curriculum) may then fill in the application document and submit their full CV
    3. All proof documents must be certified
    4. Closing date is strictly 31 July of every year.

  2. Promising Candidates are then invited to write a psychometric test.
  3. After selection, prospective candidates will be invited to an interview
  4. Selected candidates start class in January

A bursary holder will have the following benefits:

  1. All college fees will be paid by Wilmed Park Private Hospital
  2. All perscribed boks can be borrowed from the Wilmed Park Private Hospital Library that will ensure that each learner will have his/her own set of books.
  3. Two sets of uniforms, a pair of shoes and a jersey is supplied to the learner.
  4. The learner will receive an incentive per month as decided by the trustees and management of Wilmed Park private Hospital.
  5. If/When the learner is required to attend classes at the main college in Carletonville, Wilmed Park is paying all accommodation expenses, but will not provide transport.
  6. The learner will sign a study contract for the time of studying, but has no contractual binding after completing the course.
  7. The learner will work 40 hours per week as required by the South African Nursing Council.
  8. 28 days of leave.
  9. 12 days sick leave.
A bursary holder will NOT have the following benefits:
  1. Due to the fact that bursary holders are not employees of Wilmed Park Private Hospital, they have no membership to a medical aid or a pension fund and must provide proof of paid up indemnity cover.
  2. The learner should provide his/her own accommodation and transport while employed at Wilmed Park Private Hospital.
  3. A Bursary holder will not be taken into consideration for salary increases or service bonuses for employees
  4. On completion of the course, Wilmed Park Private Hospital is under no obligation to employ the person as an enrolled nurse. if a vacant position is advertised, any learner may apply for the position.
